Three ceramic elephant figures standing on top of each other, on top of a blue stoneware base

The physical dimensions and otherworldliness of elephants help me to express my slightly quizzical view of life and its absurdities. Elephants are sentient creatures with a capacity for many of the sophisticated emotions and thought processes that are associated with being human. The contrast between the physical dimensions of elephants and the compassion that they show towards their herd members is compelling. The idea of making fabric patterned elephants, and elephants who tell stories stem from this observation. I’m not trying to humanise elephants, but if people could just be a little bit more … ‘elephant’…  Part of me thinks that elephants should take over the world!
